Aeration System – Electric and Wind

Electric Aeration Systems

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC was hired by a family near Council Bluffs, IA to assist with planning and managing aspects of the renovation of two old farm ponds.  This included making suggestions on habitat improvements, water control structures, stocking plans and stocking fish, aerator installation, and floating FLOE dock installation.  The AquaMaster rotary vane aeration system in the larger lower pond pumps air to 6 single membrane diffusers.  The smaller upper pond is aerated using an American Eagle Windmill.

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC was hired by the Polk County Conservation Board to install aeration systems in a pond at Jester Park and at Thomas Mitchell Park.  Both systems had undergone major renovations and received AquaMaster aeration units with single membrane diffusers and remote manifolds.  We continue to service and provide maintenance parts for these units when service intervals are reached.

A homeowners association near Bondurant, Iowa hired Iowa Pond Guy, LLC to develop a management plan and make recommendations on in lake improvements.  After several meetings with them home owners association, Iowa Pond Guy installed two AquaMaster aeration systems and a circulator in the upper 2/3 of the lake.  Following installation we continue to treat the shallow areas along the shoreline and coves with beneficial bacteria pellets.  Periodically we are called upon to treat small areas of filamentous algae and duckweed using chemical application equipment.

Construction and Repair

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC was hired by a family near Marshalltown, IA to determine options for repairing a leaky pond. The options presented were bentonite or a BTL Liner system.  The family opted for the BTL Liner.  After laying out the pond’s normal water level we completed the necessary dirt work, installed the liner, and back-filled the margins of the pond to complete the project.  This pond filled up within a year and would have filled sooner but it was a very dry year.

A private pond owner near Maxwell, Iowa reached out to Iowa Pond Guy, LLC to repair an existing pond dam by removing trees and shrubs and regrading the surface. After the repair work was completed we seeded the pond dam and surrounding work site area, installed erosion control straw matting and straw wattles to further minimize erosion.

A private pond owner near Waukee, Iowa contacted Iowa Pond Guy, LLC regarding a leaking pond. After several meetings and discussions about best management options we were hired to install a pond liner in lieu of bentonite. The liner was installed and a liner boot placed around the overflow tube to prevent erosion control. Once the pond filled up with water, we were hired to install an aeration system and stock the pond with fish (bluegill, channel catfish and large mouth bass) The pond now holds water and provides a place for recreation for the family

A rural pond owner contacted Iowa Pond Guy, LLC to have their pond dam repaired which had been intentionally breached and drained previously to allow the pond bottom sediments to dry out. Once dried, the excess sediment were removed. A new overflow tube was installed, an emergency spillway was installed (that had not existed prior), and straw mat and wattles were placed for erosion control purposes. The pond filled up very quickly following snow melt and the pond was later stocked with advanced size fish (bluegill, channel catfish, large mouth bass and walleye).

Docks

A floating aluminum dock was installed for a rural pond owner to increase access to the pond. The dock was extended out from shore with a 12 foot shoreline ramp 6 feet wide. The dock layout had a perpendicular piece 16 feet in length and 6 feet wide. Swim ladders and two bench seats with cup holders were attached to it. Access to the pond has increased significantly as well as relaxing, recreational time spent just sitting on the dock.

Fish Population Assessment

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC was hired by a family near Williamsburg, Iowa to complete fish population assessments on four of their ponds.  We used electrofishing gear to capture the fish and collected lengths and weights from those fish for population analysis purposes.  With this information a fish management report was written showing the current health of the fish population and recommendations for fish population management, including fish stocking and habitat improvement options.

Fish Stocking

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC was hired by a home owners association in Ankeny, Iowa to maintain their community pond.  We remove the fountain in the fall and clean, service, and store the unit and re-install the unit in the spring of the year.  The pond also is periodically treated for filamentous algae, but is primarily managed using water soluble beneficial bacteria packets.

Vegetation Management

Iowa Pond Guy, LLC has been providing pond maintenance for the a family near Waukee, Iowa for over 9 years.  During this time, we provided a wide variety of services for this 16 acre pond.  We were recently asked to provide suggestions for a system that would provide oxygen to their smaller pond with a lot of surface water movement to reduce standing water conditions aquatic plant species like duckweed and water meal thrive in.  By installing this AquaMaster Volcano aerating unit we have achieved those goals and significantly reduced issues with duckweed and water meal.  We have also completed chemical vegetation treatments, fish stocking plans, and stocking fish for these customers.

The Liu Family near Cedar Rapids, Iowa hired Iowa Pond Guy, LLC to install new air lines and diffusers and service an existing aeration system already on site.  The pond was also treated at the same time for filamentous algae.  The pictures depict the pond after treatment occurred.
